VISIT TO ANITKABİR

The board members of the Turkish Union, the members of other Soroptimist Clubs and the scholars were present for a moment of silence in the presence of our Atatürk’s mausoleum Anıtkabir on November 4, 2023, on the 100th anniversary of Republic of Türkiye, to commemorate our Founding Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk who with his thoughts far ahead of its time, ensured a new era to Turkish women by revolutions which improved the status of women. President Nazlı Yolaç and three of our scholars fulfilled this honorable duty.

Two different cultural events were organized for our scholars on the same day;

We visited the “Republic Museum”, which was used as the Turkish Grand National Assembly building for approximately 40 years, dated back to the founding of the Republic of Türkiye. It was a visit where we were informed with the feeling of an atmosphere of those years.

We visited Turkish Union’s Başkent Community Education Center which is located at Ankara Castle, a historical region, and saw the portrait of Atatürk, consisting of 17 thousand small mosaic stones, designed to draw attention to the revolutions and achievements made since the declaration of the Republic.

ORANGE the DAYS, CYBER VIOLENCE

Turkish Union’s project theme “See the Symptoms of Cyber Violence, Do not Ignore, Recognize the Ways to Empower” for Orange the Days was announced to the public and media with a press release on November 27, 2024, in İzmir. In coordination of five İzmir clubs, Nazlı Yolaç, the president of our club prepared a press release and the Union President made a statement in front of the “Orange Garden” in Konak Square. We succeeded in raising awareness against cyber violence during orange the days by drawing the attention of the public with the participation of the media and of Soroptimists who are members of all Izmir clubs.

The fact that the press release was held in front of this meaningful garden further emphasized the meaning and importance of the day. Because the Orange Garden, which was opened by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality on November 25th in 2021, was designed with orange-colored plants to commemorate the memories of women who were taken away from their lives due to male violence and with the Women’s Monument which was created by transforming into three-dimensional form the work of Croatian artist Mojmir Mihatov, who participated in the International Gender Equality Cartoon Competition organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.

The leaflets “Be Safe from Digital Threats”, prepared by SIE and translated by the Turkish Union were distributed during the event. This event attracted the attention of the public and the press and created a significant impact in our city. It was published in nine different digital newspapers and a daily newspaper.
